Thanks from Canton

Dear friends,

On behalf of Canton Presbyterian Church and our shared ministries in Canton, I want to say a special word of thanks to the volunteers who came here this fall to help with ongoing recovery efforts from the flood in 2021, and to the churches who supported them. The fact that you keep our town in your prayers, plans, and work means the world to us. You showed up big, with your tools, energy, humor, and love. Our own church's volunteers who joined you, Lisa White and Danny Colvin, say that only a great team like y'all could make a square floor fit in an 8-sided room. Thank you for your time, hard work, and friendship. We are more grateful than words can say to be part of this Presbytery with you.

An additional message of thanks to everyone who made financial donations to help with flood recovery when things were at their worst. In the past two years, Canton Presbyterian Church has been able to buy cars, food, and supplies for survivors, and help pay bills and moving expenses. We were able to donate $20,000 to the United Way to help settle survivors in new housing, and last month we presented Director Robb Hood of Haywood County's Baptists on Mission with $15,650 to support ongoing house construction and relocation for survivors. (Presbyterian Disaster Assistance was on hand and able to give us good advice and support, but was not able to direct operations here because of a COVID-era freeze on new work sites. We have been fortunate to partner with the United Methodist Committee on Relief and Baptists on Mission.)

With everything Canton has been through in recent years, with COVID, the flood, and then the closure of the PACTIV-Evergreen mill, we give glory to God for the grace, mercy, and love we experience through all of you. May God bless you all abundantly, as you have blessed us.

Grace and peace,
Esta Jarrett
Pastor, Canton Presbyterian Church
